Last August 8, 2008, former presidential candidate John Edwards confessed to having an affair while his wife, Elizabeth was battling with a deadly form of cancer. He, however, denied that he fathered a child with Rielle Hunter. Edwards did not take the paternity tests but claims that the timing of the affair and birth did not correlate. A former Edwards’s campaign staffer has claimed the paternity for Hunter’s daughter. Frances Quinn Hunter, born last February 27, 2008 have no father’s name on her birth certificate.

Edwards was a contender for the Democratic Party’s nomination as a presidential candidate. He pursued their nod despite the fact that his wife already had cancer at this time. He dropped out of the race after he placed second in the caucuses. He was mentioned as a possible vice presidential candidate, however.

David Bonior who was Edwards’s campaign manager said he was angry about this confession because it endangered John Edwards’s future in public service. But it seemed that the affair has been going on for some time. In 2006, Edwards’ committee paid $100,000 for a new firm run by Rielle Hunter. The company produced four YouTube web videos, one of which was just 2½ minutes in length.
